We put out 3 teams in the under 9’s first contact game against a strong Clifton side and the boys certainly gave them a good game, coming out largely on top. The team put all their learnings into practice, with some powerful forward running, good discipline in passing the ball back when tackled and some great first efforts with their own tackles. In my group Alex captained the team in the first game and was tough to stop as he ran straight through the awaiting Clifton defence, showing some good strength. Theo weaved through them, with star quality, scoring several try’s and pulled off the tackle of the game, saving a certain try. Both Tasha and Tobi really impressed with their tackling and tackled solidly all morning, showing you don’t need to be the biggest to take the opposition down. George and David ran hard at the defence and made some great passes in support. It was great to see the team working together, passing before “tackle” was called and seeing Emma then burst from the pack to score a stunning try. Fanatastic start to the season all, very well done.
