The U8's went to the end of season Cheddar tournament looking to bring together all the efforts over a long season. It would be their last ever day of touch rugby, before contact next season. In typical Chew style, we turned up in drips and drabs, and just about had a full squad as kick-off for the first game approached. Taunton had clearly gone over-board with their one hour warm-up (the downside of having 6 coaches) as we started strongly, running out 5-3 winners. A straight forward win over Cheddar, was followed immediately by a tense 4-4 draw with Clevedon, with a last minute try rescuing a draw. A solid win over Nailsea meant a victory over Wellington would see us in the final. We started strongly, racing into a 6-0 lead at half-time, and deservedly ended up as group winners. Try bonus points were scored in every game, but the enthusiasm and relentless tagging was the difference, keeping the pressure on the opposition and resulting in many turnovers.

The final was against an old foe in Avonmouth, who we have played in 2 tournaments already this season, with the spoils shared. They unquestionably had the fastest player there, and he was well supported by a solid squad. Chew scored first, and were never behind throughout the match, but at 3-3 late in the second half, the match was in the balance. Using all the team skills of switching, supporting, and off-loading, we worked the ball to the right flank to sneak over for the winning try.

Cup final:
4-3 v Avonmouth

Whilst only 9 players could attend, this result was unquestionaly a squad effort, and all 19 players should be very proud. Just the presentation ceremony on 10th May left. See you all there.
