For the second year on a trot we were in the Cheddar Festival group of death, where 4 of the best 5 teams battled for 2 top spots (Cup and Plate finalists).

In the Group with Chew were Wellington, Cheddar, Clevedon, Nailses & Backwell and Ryhmney (South Wales).

Wellington: The first games are always a little messy but Chew played well enough to record a 4-0 win.

Cheddar: A good hour and a half between matches saw us having to play two games back to back! We started slowly against Cheddar but turned on the style in the second half to win 10-0.

Clevedon: Straight on against a robust and confident Clevedon team was hard for Chew, but good ball retention saw us 2-0 up with a couple of minutes remaining but a Clevedon interception certainly spiced up the remaining time with Chew scoring again to win 3-1.

Nailsea & Backwell: We always have tough matches against this good team and this one was certainly no exception. The defence by both teams was quite brutal with injured bodies everywhere. But it was the strong team spirit and belief from the Chew boys that finally saw the N&B defensive line crack and Chew record a 2-0 win.

Ryhmney: We don't know where it is, its difficult to pronounce, let alone spell and they looked like u9's but played like u18's! This was the group decider and we played a very good team who beat us 4-0. Its not that we played badly as we actually played very well but this was one of the strongest teams that we have played for a long time. It was by far their closest match of the tournament and they progressed to beat Wells 7-0 in the Cup final. Well played Ryhmney.

Plate Final v's Burnham: There was huge disappointment at not progressing to the Cup and a real test of character and team spirit for Chew who now had to play a big Burnham side for the Plate. If there is one thing that has impressed the coaches this year is the developing camaraderie, team spirit and determination to play well for each other. The Chew team picked themselves up to play superbly against Burnham to record a 7-0 win and more silverware for a magnificent season.
