The U14s visited Kingswood for the first time since the 2016/2017 season on a blustery day when conditions under foot were very heavy. Chew's match day squad was depleted by seven injuries and three further absences such that we had 17 for the visit and just enough experienced scrummagers. Nevertheless, Chew got off to a fast start dotting down two early tries to assert their authority on the game and we built on that to lead 29 v 0 at the break. The Kingswood scrum was solid, but Chew matched that and a factor that really made a difference was Chew's line speed, consistently putting our opponents under pressure and yielding turn over ball and attacking opportunities; a quality commented on by one of Kingswood's coaches. The second half saw a further five unanswered Chew tries and the kicking conversion rate of 60% for the match as a whole was an achievement given the conditions. Most pleasing was the way the whole team stepped up noting the absence of some key players with a number of shining performances on which to reflect.
