Chew visited Wells for the return fixture, having played the season opener at Lobbingtons, when Chew had run out comfortable winners. Conditions were sticky underfoot at the St Cuthberts Mill pitch, nevertheless, the bright conditions made it a good day for rugby.

It was evident from the outset that Wells were much stronger than in our earlier match and started on the front foot. Their scrum was particularly well organised and had Chew's pack back pedalling in the first half. Chew weathered this early pressure with good defensive sets and ran in two tries in the first half, from Patrick Wring and Jake Sprouting, both of which were converted to make the score 14 v 0 at the break.

What was notable about Chew's play was better structure and organisation than seen recently, which enabled some attacking space for their runners. The second half was again well contested with Chew retaining their edge. There were good performances across the team. Notable contributors were Rory Tebbutt who again used the boot to good effect, Patrick Farrar with aggressive running and Will Booker who disrupted well at the line out. Chris Martin and Joe Muscat scored a try each. Chew's scrum gained the edge as the match went on which helped them retain control, equally, they were penalised on a number of occasions for forward passes which halted momentum so opportunities for further scores were spurned.

Although Chew ran out 26 v 5 winners, Wells deserve credit for their performance and often provided a threat which required defensive resilience from Chew.
