What can only be described as a fabulous afternoon of rugby, well that’s if you’re a Chew Valley supporter anyway. A great start from Chew and within minutes the backs had a flurry of activity and Holly Washington ran in a great try getting her onto the score sheet for the first time in the green and white shirt. The next 15 minutes saw The Cats running rings around their opposition and it was only self made errors that prevented them from scoring quicker than they did. The ball was quickly won back and once in the hands of Anna Dyson there was an inevitability about the outcome. Scoring 4 tries today for The Cats, she’s becoming quite the force to be reckoned with. Centre partner Jess Gleed, joined the party and scored a well earned try not long after. However, the next quarter saw Aretians come back fighting, with several strong players to their name, they were certainly not going to sit back and be trounced. They managed to get back in the game with 2 tries, in the process Cats no8 Ani Heredi saw yellow for infringement in the scoring of their second try. However, Chew had to remain confident in that they were the better side and with that, Anna went over for her second try to release the pressure.

Half time score 10-26.

The second half saw the visitors start to turn the screw, the difference in fitness and speed was starting to really show, and that was when the flood gates were truly opened. Yeatman, Hynam and Ani- returning from her 10 minutes of rest- joined the try club with great strong carries. There were many other strong ball carriers on display today, in particular Brontë Lynch and captain Ally Stevens, who both had multiple runs, but didn’t get points to their names this afternoon. Anna Dyson danced over for a couple more and Jess Gleed and Holly Washington added another couple to the score board before a quick cat nap saw the home side sneak over for their third and final try of the day. Great to see returning injured player, Nikki Venn, on the pitch again and new young player Ellie Rich had an absolute stormer when she came on, certainly one to watch! New player Hannah Evan also took to the field this afternoon and we’re eagerly awaiting her first flurry with the ball in hand.
Charlotte Hynam added another 12 points with 6 successful conversions.

Final score 15-67
